1-2 weeks, depending on destination. We are not interested in an exchange with Southern European countries, e.g. Spain. |

June 01, 2019 - July 26, 2019 | 2 weeks |
The length of stay in summer is negotiable (US and CA: 3-4 weeks), but we don‘t want to go to Southern Europe. We are definitely not available in August and September. |

Welcome to the capital of the Black Forest, very close to France and Switzerland
We have a townhouse, situated on a slope, with a small garden in the sunny and beautiful southwest of Germany. From our home it is only 10 minutes by streetcar to the historical center of Freiburg (founded in 1120) with its many medieval sights, museums, parks and other places of interest. A 25-50 minute ride by car to the east takes you to the beautiful Black Forest with its numerous sights and hiking trails and to Lake Constance (2 h, panoramic view of the Alps). To the Alpine foothills with their hand-painted houses and München it is about four hours. Kaiserstuhl, the famous wine-growing district and European bird sanctuary, with its quaint little villages and unique sunken paths in the loess as well as picturesque Alsace (e.g. Colmar, Strasbourg) are about 20-60 min away in the west. Le Corbusier's famous chapel in Ronchamp (UNESCO world heritage site) can be reached in 90 min. To the north there are a number of castle ruins (10th-15th century), the world’s best amusement park, Europa-Park (20 min), and cities like Baden-Baden (65 min, thermal springs), Karlsruhe (85 min, baroque castle), world-renowned Heidelberg (2 h) and Stuttgart (2h). Heading south there is Markgräflerland, another well-known wine-growing area (30-45 min). Visit the small medieval town of Staufen at the foot of a castle or enjoy a bath in the thermal springs of Badenweiler. To Basel in Switzerland it is less than an hour by car, and to Zürich it takes about 2h20.
Needless to say that our region is known for its good food and wine and also for its typically German „Gemütlichkeit“ (sociability).
