A spacious house in the centre of the old town of Lochem, with spacious garden.

Our house (200m2) is located in a small nice old town (Lochem), in a great area for walking and cycling. The medieval towns of Zutphen and Deventer are very close. Cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht are easy to reach, by car or by train. For nature, you can visit the immediate surroundings of our house, located in the 'Achterhoek'. The National Park 'Hoge Veluwe' is a 45 min. drive. This park is only accessible by bus or bikes, which are free to take at the entrance of the park. Inside the park is the Kröller Muller Museum, where you can see many works of Van Gogh. More information on the Netherlands and our region: see 'our neighbourhood' (beneath the map).

Our house has a very spacious living room with kitchen (100 m2), 5 bedrooms (1 downstairs) and two bathrooms.
There is little traffic in the street, since it's for residents only. There is plenty room for parking. You can use our bikes, or rent them at many places in the area. We are happy to give you information about sightseeing in the area.
Our house is an old house (oldest part is build in 1905), but in 2015 we have renovated the house, so it is a modern, comfort house in an old, historical setting.

We are a family with three children. We like to walk in the mountains or nice hills, cycle and love to visit old towns or villages.

Unsere Wohnlage

Lochem is an old little town in an area called the 'Achterhoek'. The Achterhoek is characterized by a countryside with typical farmhouses and majestic castles. It has villages scattered across a varied landscape with hedgerows, woodlands and meadows crossed by streams.

The best way to explore the Achterhoek is by walking or cycling through its beautiful landscape. There are many cycling tours that lead you to the most magnificent mansions, castles and gardens. A visit to Bronkhorst, the smallest city in the Netherlands, teaches you more about the rich history of this region.

The Achterhoek is part of the province of Gelderland. For more information in English: http://www.holland.com/global/tourism/cities-in-holland/provinces/gelderland-1.htm

Holland is a very small country, so you can enjoy our beautiful surroundings, but also other highlights of our country. Of course, a visit to Amsterdam is not to be missed and you can reach it by car or train in one day and back easily. Some other touristic tips for your visit:

Cities and villages in the region:
- Zutphen (15 min), beautiful old medieval 'Hanzestad', cosy and lots of facilities like shops and restaurants
- Deventer (30 min), also medieval Hanzestad, lots of shops, modern and antique, small streets and restaurants
Both cities are on the river IJssel, typical dutch water-landscape. More info on these 'Hanzesteden' and others like Doesburg, Zwolle and Kampen: http://www.hanzesteden.info/en/home/
- Bronckhorst (30 min), smallest city of the Netherlands, very old and charming, in the river beds.

Nature reserves and outstanding landscapes in the region. We cannot be complete, because Lochem is surrounded by nature, but some highlights:
- Lochemse Berg ('Mountain of Lochem'): a hilly landscape just around Lochem.
- Landgoed Twickel (30 min.): an old estate, beautiful for walking and cycling http://en.twickel.nl/
- National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug (30 min): http://www.sallandseheuvelrug.nl/node/204
- National Park Veluwezoom (40 min.), especially the "Posbank'. Endless cycling. http://www.holland.com/global/tourism/article/de-veluwezoom-1.htm
- Haaksbergerveen (30 min); very special nature reserve, with wetlands, woods and mores in the border region with Germany

Leisure activities:
- Swimming pool with waterslide (and more) within Lochem
- Big tropical swimming pool in Deventer (30 min)
- Swimming in open air (lakes): within Lochem a small lake in the woods, a bigger one in 15 min (Borculo), a very large one in 30 mins (Oldenzaal) and more..
- Zoo: http://www.burgerszoo.com/ in Arnhem (40 min.) Has won many prices
- Open air museum Arnhem (40 min.): http://www.openairmuseum.nl. An impressive museum of dutch history, with old houses and modern technology. Very nice with and without children
- Climbing in the woods, in Ruurlo (10 min.): http://klimbos.nl/klimbos-achterhoek (information only in dutch, but you will get an impression)
- A well kept secret: Erve Brooks (10 min); an adventure path, a 'bare footh path', playing for children in an old barn, eating typical dutch food (pancakes) in the beautiful garden: http://www.erve-brooks.nl (again, no english information on the website, but you'll get the idea)
- Kroller Muller Museum within National Park de Hoge Veluwe (40 min). A special combination of nature and culture. The National Park is only accessible by bike (free to take at the entrance!!!) or bus and is extremely beautiful. In the middle of the park is the Kroller Moller Museum, with many Van Goghs. Absolutely worth a visit! http://krollermuller.nl/visit and https://www.hogeveluwe.nl/en

And lots more... we love to tell you!

Highlights some further away:
- Amsterdam (90 min). Never been there? Please go! We have lived in the city for many years. We would love to advise you on the most beautiful spots! www.iamsterdam.com
- Utrecht (75 min). Much smaller than Amsterdam, but definitely worth a visit. http://www.findingdutchland.com/utrecht-most-beautiful-canals-europe/.
- Giethoorn (80 min). The Venice of the North. Attracting visitors from all over the world. Enjoy this village from the water in your own rental boat. Within National Park the Wieden Weerribben. http://giethoorntourism.com/
- Castle Bad Bentheim (Germany, 50 min.). Just across the border in Germany, an impressive castle. http://www.bentheim-castle.com/

Vorstellungstext über sich bzw. Ihre Familie

We are a family with three children, two girls and a boy. See 'lifestyle' for more information.

Lebensstil

We are a family with three children: Simon (12 years old), Evi (9) and Lise (7). Jan Jaap has is own small company and works as a consultant in tourism. Selma works as a social worker with children and youngsters with a slight mental disabillaty. Our three children are in primary school.

In daily life, we are fond of walking or cycling in nature and having picknicks, which is very nice in the immediate surroundings of Lochem. We like travelling a lot. During holidays we are very active, we like to make walks and picknicks and like to visit old towns and villages every day.
We also like music a lot: there is a piano in our living room. Jan Jaap has played the violin and sings in a choir now, Selma loves the piano. We like photography as well.

Our cats, Bob en Lotje, are very friendly to children. Our children hug them a lot!

Although it is our first year that we would like to try to exchange homes ourselves, Jan Jaap is very familiar with it, since his parents have exchanged a lot (with Intervac) when he was young.
