A refreshingly-modern upstart sibling to the town's historic Plaza, our home is in the artistic and hip Railyard area of Santa Fe. the end of the spur-line for the Atchinson, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad. The Railyard's soul (and the brain trust of the slow food movement) is the Santa Fe Farmer's Market. Stalls heaped with colorful local produce, organic lamb, artisan cheeses, and buckets of New Mexican sunflowers greet you every Tuesday and Saturday morning. The fooderati flock to Santa Fe not only for its extraordinary farmer's market. Its inventive chefs and their entertaining cooking classes, and the renowned Wine & Chili Festival draw huge numbers as well. Art collectors troll Santa Fe's eclectic galleries, prestigious museums and art festivals throughout the summer including SITE Santa Fe's International Biennial, Indian Market, Spanish Market, and the International Folk Art Market.
Santa Fe was recently named America's first UNESCO Creative City. It is also the oldest state capitol in the US, celebrating its 409th year.
Opera's finest come to the Santa Fe Opera every summer for a season of acclaimed new and classic operas performed in Santa Fe's architectural jewel of an opera house, constructed in a contemporary clam shell shape. Throughout the year you can snag amazing seats at some of the best rock, country, jazz and classical concerts in the country at Santa Fe's intimate venues. The Lannan Foundation brings internationally-renowned writers, artists and musicians to speak in the beautifully-restored Lensic Theater. And with more than 150 galleries, Santa Fe is firmly entrenched as the second largest art market in the country.
Northern New Mexico is Georgia O'Keeffe country: red rocks sculpted by wind and rain climb from the desert floor; mountains covered in Aspen trees frame electric blue skies. It's warm (and thanks to the altitude, never too hot) in the summer. In the winter, the mountains are blanketed in deep powdery snow. This stunning landscape is home to world-class skiing, biking, rafting, kayaking, hiking, golf, fly fishing, rock and ice climbing. (Santa Fe's own ski resort, Ski Santa Fe, is just 35 minutes from our door; Taos Ski Valley is two hours north.)
