We offer a nice house with a green garden around it in a silent living area. Lots of space for living, cooking, sleeping etc. We have two three bedrooms and can make one more. Harlingen is one of the 'Frisian 11 cities', with 16.000 inhabitants. It is located on the coast. You can take the boat for a trip to the beautiful Wadden Islands (Unesco Heritage) from Harlingen. Harlingen itself has a pittoresk old city centre with more than 750 monumental buildings. It has a little shopping street and several restaurants etc. Harlingen is 25 kilometers from Leeuwarden, the capital city of Friesland. Leeuwarden was European Capital Cultural City in 2018. Several other nice cities like Bolsward, Sneek and Franeker are close by to Harlingen. You can easily bike to there.
The house is in a quiet neighbourhood, and was build in 1979. It has a garage and a parking place and is completely modernised last spring.
Close to Harlingen is the Afsluitdijk. There starts the IJsselmeer, a big lake. Friesland is famous for its lakes and sailing waters. You can easily hire a boat etc. The land is flat and green and perfect for biking.
If you like culture, there are many nice places and museums to visit, for example the Fries Museum at Leeuwarden, the Royal Eisinga Museum at Franeker and Het Hannemahuis at Harlingen. And Amsterdam is surprisingly close: within 5 quartes of an hour from Harlingen (100 km). The province of Noord-Holland is near by anyway (Alkmaar, Zaanstad, Haarlem).
Enjoy your stay in a green and quiet province of The Netherlands without any traffic jam! Other cities within one hour by car: Groningen, Assen, Zwolle.

About the neighborhood
Marnehiem 42 is located close to a shopping area where can buy foods. The house is in a quiet living area. Walking to the sea will take you 10 minutes, by bike you go there even quicklyer. Harlingen is surrounded by water and green field. If you like birds, you have to come here. Several wedlands and viewing point wait for you to see the birds. The historical city of Harlingen is only a 5 minutes drive. There you can enjoy the famous cannels en harbours. It's realy great to walk around you, with or without a city guide. On Saterday there is an organ concert evere two weeks at 20.00 hour in the Grote Kerk.
Also enjoy the little shops and restaurants in Harlingen.
Leeuwarden, the capital city of Friesland, will take you 20 minutes by car. The old city is very nice with lots of old buildings en churches. Sneek, Bolsward, Franeker and Dokkum can be visited also easily. There you will find Frisian live and Frisian language, and a lot summer performances en activities.
Amsterdam can be reached from Harlingen in less than 100 km. It will take you 5 quaters of a hour to get there.
You should also go to the Wadden Islands one day or a few days. Nature is overwhelming there and marvellous beaches are all around. Hiring a bike there will cost you only a few euro's. The ferries to Vlieland and to Terschelling depart from Harlingen (Doeksen). You can get online tickets or go to the ticket service at the terminal. Going to Vlieland, you can't take a car with you.

Teunard et Coby nous ont accueillis très chaleureusement et avec beaucoup d’attentions. Nous avons apprécié leur partage d’idées de visites, de rencontres et de découvertes dans la région. La maison est décorée de beaux objets et confortable. Chats et poules ont été de bonne compagnie. A la fin du séjour, nous avons pu partager à nouveau un repas ensemble, tout à fait dans l’esprit Intervac que nous apprécions tant. Un excellent souvenir d’échange !
We enjoyd the house and our guest family very much. Switserland is wonderfull and there is a lot to do and a lot to see. The house is fine and the little garden Is quiet and nice. We did swim every day in the river right before the house.
Everything was as described. The house is spacious, the garden is beautiful and the residential area is quiet We were well introduced by the exchange partners. They left our house the way they found it: clean. A nice way to get to know Friesland better from Harlingen, be it by bike or by car.
