Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
North Balwyn is a leafy suburb on the eastern side of Melbourne.
We are very close to the Yarra River that flows through Melbourne so have easy access to walks and bike paths along the river. You can ride a bike from our house into the city along the Yarra River bike path. From our place you can also get to parkland and bushwalks along the Yarra from the city to the far eastern suburbs and out into Yarra Valley (an area with many world class wineries).
We have several local shopping centres close by - our closet village shops still have a butcher, a deli and fruit and vegetable shop as well as several cafes.
Melbourne, just a tram ride away, is a vibrant city known for its laneway street art, cafe culture and quality restaurants. It is the home to the Australian Tennis Open, the Australian Football League, the Australian Ballet, the National Gallery of Victoria and has many beautiful beaches around the bay.

Kimbra and Terry were so kind in allowing us to stay in both their house and their beach house. Both were stunning. We stayed much longer than they stayed in my home but it wasn't a problem for them. They left very good information and instructions. The neighbourhood is lovely and the house is great.
This was a lovely home in close proximity to the Burrell Collection Gallery and Pollock Park. Also we had easy access to central Glasgow using the local bus. Jean was a delightful host. Her house was as described and had a lovely sunny conservatory and garden. It was delightful to get to know Jean through this exchange.
We loved staying in this house. Being near the Thames it is in a great location for walking and going to local pubs. We also really liked the local cafe/deli. And it was an easy train trip into the city. We really appreciated the cleanliness and order of the house. Instructions for looking after the house and garden were really clear and easily managed.
This family stayed in our home and were great guests. Our house was left in perfect condition. Note - We did not meet them as we were away and we are yet to stay in their home.

We are a recently retired couple living in Melbourne. We have two grown children, one of whom lives in London and hence our desire to obtain a house exchange in the UK. We enjoy walking holidays and have walked several short and long distance paths in the UK and Europe.
