House in Newport on Tay, Great Britain

We have a traditional sandstone terrace house, built in 1880 with many period features including fireplace and a wood burning stove and beautiful cornicing. The house faces the Tay estuary and overlooks Dundee.

Newport is a lovely village with many houses of architectural interest. The village has two convenience stores, a butcher, bank, chemist, post-office, hairdresser, delicatessan, organic veg shop and 2 cafes ( aswell as some other shops). We also have one pub, one hotel/restaurant/bar (The Newport Hotel) - with a fantastic tasting menu, and two bistros/bars ( The Boat Brae and The View) with great food overlooking the estuary. We have a lovely park in the middle of the village which is a great place for a walk or open countryside just behind our house which has great views over the estuary. At the end of our road is a Sports Centre where you can play squash, tennis and badminton, or kick a football around on the pitch.

Situated in West Newport we are an hour's walk to Dundee (5km) or an easy flat ride by bicycle. The bus to Dundee leaves from outside our house and only takes 15minutes. Dundee has good shopping facilities, cinema, bars and restaurants as well as indoor swimming pool. From Dundee the main station will take you to Glasgow(1hr20), Edinburgh(1Hour) , Aberdeen, Inverness and many other locations. Within easy reach of the house is the beautiful beach of Kinshady (seals can be seen at High Tide) and Tenstmuir forest.(10km) Historic St. Andrews (15km) can be reached by car or using cycle paths.

North of Dundee lie the true Highlands and I would recommend a trip to Dunkeld, Loch Tay and Aberfeldy as well as a visit to Balmoral(Home of the English Queen). Within easy reach are many castles such as Glamis( childhood home of the Queen Mother and of Macbeth fame!) or Scone Palace (Perth 30mins) and Blair Atholl Castle(1 hour).

This is a lovely area with lots of places to see within easy reach of the house. In the village there is an Indian takeaway and a Chinese. One of the cafes mentioned above is a lovely voluntary run cafe called manna they are Fair Trade and are very reasonable, we would recommend this place if you are looking for a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. The other cafe: Kitschnbake - has a lovely range of cakes and breakfast menu!
