France would be great! Preferably at max 3 hrs drive from Roanne, so we can visit relatives.

Cosy home in charming old village Gasselte. Near Groningen: 'One of the best places to visit in Europe'.

As we have just moved to our new home in Gasselte, which needs quite a lot of TLC and DIY, we will probably not be available for exchanges until Spring 2020.

Come and experience the beauty and tranquility of the Dutch countryside in the province of Drenthe. We are a family with two boys aged 6 and 9 and two friendly cats. And we love the intervac concept! We answer all invitations, don't hesitate to send us a message. We are also interested in weekend exchanges at max 3 hrs drive.

Our home is a small but cosy detached house with 3 bedrooms, built in 1930, with a big garden (1700 m2). Nature trail 't Brummelpad starts just at the other side of the road.

We live in the outer rim of the beautiful small village Gasselte in the Northern part of the Netherlands, situated in the Hondsrug, the only UNESCO Global Geopark of the Netherlands. The village is typical for the region with its old  farms with thatched roofs. The village is surrounded by forests and fields of heather, bogs and marshes filled with ancient hunebedden (neolithic monuments) and burial mounts, all within a few minutes reach from our home. It´s a cyclist's and walker´s paradise, with a lot of cycling and walking tracks, starting right on our doorstep.

There is a trampoline and soccer goal in the garden and of course we have lots of toys for little boys and board games for grown ups. Lots of reading material (also in English and some in German), DVD's and xbox/playstation games.

In Gasselte, you can find several bistro's and restaurants, a bakery, post office, gasoline station/garage, riding school and golf course. For the daily groceries and more shops, you can go either to Gieten (3km) or Borger (6km).

The vibrant city of Groningen, home of the 400 years old University of Groningen, cultural capital of Northern Netherlands, was voted #1 event city of The Netherlands. This old Hanseatic city is only 30 minutes by car or public transport. Giethoorn, our own green Venice, is located in the largest continuous fenland of Northern Europe, and is an hours drive away. An hour to the north brings you to Lauwersoog, gateway to the Wadden Sea, with the ferry to the beautiful Wadden Isle Schiermonnikoog. And since we live in a small country, Amsterdam is just two hours away by car or by train (from Assen).
But why go to Amsterdam when, according to CNN, Groningen is the place to be? 'Young and hip, Groningen is a winning alternative to Amsterdam. The canals and classic Dutch buildings are all in evidence, but without the bustling hordes of tourists'.

Vorstellungstext über sich bzw. Ihre Familie

Hi!
We're Reinier (42, art school alumnus turned software developer trainee), Charissa (42, historian turned communications officer at the University of Groningen), Arend (sporty nine year old boy) and Siebren (creative six year old boy) Caron. And  we'de love to exchange homes with you!

We love being outdoors, that's why we moved from The Hague to the countryside. Our two very energetic boys now have plenty of space to run around.

Ofcourse we have lots of toys, especially cars, trains, duplo, LEGO, bikes and other wheeled vehicles for your children to play with and everything you need for a baby.

We adopted two five year old cats from the animal shelter. They are easy going, also with small children.

Lebensstil

When she's not working or playing games with the children, Charissa loves to sing and act with her musicaltheater choir. If there's any time left, you can find her working in the garden or reading sci-fi books. In summer, she goes to to an arts camp for a week in the local woods (Buitenkunst). Most times, the children join her.

Reinier loves to make art, builds remote controlled cars, tinkers with software and is a bit of a gamer (lots of Xbox and PlayStation 2 games here!). He also knows the best spots to find mushrooms in the surrounding woods.

Arend is quite athletic and loves to play soccer with his friends at school and recently joined the soccer team in Gieten. He also enjoys his parcours training sessions a lot and rehearses his newly learned trics on the trampoline in the back yard. In addition, he has a LEGO-, hotwheels-, and Pokemon addiction, and would love to play soccer on the PlayStation all day.

Siebren is a very energetic and creative little boy. He loves drawing, creating works of art with paper, paint, tape and play-doh, playing with LEGO and cars, going to his parcours training sessions and dressing up like Harry Potter. He too loves Pokemon.
